Welcome to Gullane Tennis Club

New membership rates & constitutional amendments agreed March 2024

At the AGM on 12th March 2024 we agreed to increase prices for the first time in 12 years and to amend the constitution to allow us to apply to become a community amateur sports club.  Please see the reports in the clubhouse.

Introduction

We are a friendly and popular tennis club based in Gullane, with some of the finest all-weather tennis courts in East Lothian.

Whether you are looking for social or competitive tennis, our club has something for everyone, from beginners to advanced players.

Court bookings are mandatory for members and non-members. Courts can be booked using our online court booking system and can be made for up to 75 minutes. The gate code will be sent out in an email confirming your booking. Our rules for court usage can be read here. Please note that, in exceptional circumstances, court bookings may be cancelled depending on changes to LTA, Tennis Scotland and/or Scottish Government guidelines.

ORGANISED SOCIAL TENNIS SESSIONS

There are three weekly club / social tennis sessions, each organised via a dedicated Whatsapp group.

These social sessions are led by volunteers, who will send out a weekly Whatsapp message to co-ordinate numbers and keep a record of those attending.

  • Tuesday mornings, 0730-0800 start, early birds session

PLAYING TENNIS SOCIALLY/ AD HOC

We appreciate that not everyone wants to join club sessions but might still welcome the opportunity to meet and play with other members at singles or doubles. To assist with this, we have four WhatsApp groups via which group members can seek other members to play singles, make up a four, etc. Other members can then reply (preferably privately), arrangements are made, a court is booked and you play as arranged.

The four WhatsApp groups are listed below:

  • Rusty rackets (for players returning to tennis or just starting)
  • Social (for players wanting a match in a social environment)
  • Competitive (for players wanting a more competitive match)
  • Singles (for players exclusively wanting to play singles)

Should you wish to be added to any of these Whatsapp groups, please email membership@gullanetennisclub.com, including your mobile phone number.

TEAM TENNIS – LADIES TEAMS

We  have two teams in partnership with Longniddry tennis club playing in the East of Scotland Ladies Doubles League: the 1sts are in Division 3 and the 2nds are in Division 6.

Ladies 1st team matches are played on a Tuesday evening, and 2nds are on a Thursday from 6pm onwards. We expect the leagues to start end April / early May and run until the end of June. Home matches will be played at Gullane or Dunbar, and away matches across East Lothian, Edinburgh and Fife (sometimes needing to leave East Lothian at 4.30/5pm). Each team has 3 pairs and the matches consist of 3 doubles games, with a total of 4 sets for each couple.

We have good interest for the ladies this year, but if you are keen to get involved please do contact Caroline Freeman on carolinealicefreeman@hotmail.com to express your interest and suggest which team you would be interested in being considered for. Everyone is welcome. We are presently holding a weekly team training session, which you’d be welcome to join.

TEAM TENNIS – MEN’S TEAM

We have one Gullane team in the  East of Scotland Men’s Doubles League this year. Home matches are played at Gullane on a Wednesday evening from 6pm, with away matches across East Lothian, Edinburgh and Fife (sometimes needing to leave East Lothian at 4.30/5pm). Each team has 3 pairs and the matches consist of 3 doubles games, with at least 4 sets for each pair (sometimes this will be 6 sets, depending on how quickly each match is completed).

If you are keen to get involved please contact Bryan Leslie on bryanleslie@outlook.com to express your interest.

Everyone is welcome. We are presently doing a weekly team training session which you’d be welcome to join.

THE GTC COMMITTEE

We are a friendly, hard-working and approachable committee, made up of a small group of committed volunteers. We are always looking to recruit new members of the committee.  None of the roles are particularly onerous, either in time or workload, and committee membership is a great way to get to know others and become a valued member of the club. If you are interested in joining the committee, please email membership@gullanetennisclub.com.

BRITISH TENNIS MEMBERSHIP

Becoming a British Tennis member is free of charge (and if you opt-in to the Wimbledon Ballot it helps Gullane Tennis Club to get even more tickets for Wimbledon!).  To join, please visit the LTA website at:  https://www3.lta.org.uk/Members/Join/

NO DOGS PLEASE
Please note that, for hygiene and health & safety reasons, dogs are not allowed beyond the coded gate. We thank you for your support with this.

Health and Safety

Members of Gullane Tennis Club are reminded that they play at their own risk. It is incumbent on all players to conduct themselves sensibly and safely at all times, to adhere to the club rules and to prioritise the safety and security of themselves and other players. Please take care particularly in wet, frosty or wintry conditions, when there might be slippery patches on or around the courts - and always beware of stray balls lying around, which can result in twisted ankles!

First Aid

In case of accidents, bumps and scrapes, a First Aid box is provided for members' use. This is stored outside the clubhouse, under one of the benches, so that all players may have access to it, regardless of whether or not they have a clubhouse key.

The kit contains instant ice packs, plasters, bandages and a range of other First Aid supplies. Items are provided as a courtesy to members, so please help yourself, but do use them sparingly and please consider replacing what you use.

Inside the First Aid box there is also an Accident/ Incident book for you to complete should you wish to report the incident to the Club. We would encourage you to do so if it is anything more serious than a minor cut or graze, just so that we have a record of what has happened. You can then take a screenshot of the report and email it to the membership email address: membership@gullanetennisclub.com or simply leave it on the table in the clubhouse for one of the committee to collect and file.

For more serious incidents, the nearest AEDs (defibrillators) are located next door at Gullane Health Centre, and on the external wall of the community hall, beside the front door.

Please take care, stay safe and enjoy your tennis!

Thank you.
